Kubernetes disaster recovery protects your clusters and workloads from data loss, infrastructure failure, and regional outages. It includes automated backups with Velero, cross-region failover, stateful data replication, and tested recovery procedures with defined RTO/RPO targets.
Velero is the industry-standard open-source tool for Kubernetes backup and restore. It backs up cluster resources (Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps) and persistent volumes, enabling full cluster recovery or selective restore. We configure Velero as part of every Kubernetes consulting engagement.
Databases require specialized DR beyond Velero. We implement database-native replication (PostgreSQL streaming replication, MySQL InnoDB Cluster), application-consistent snapshots using storage provider APIs, and point-in-time recovery with tested failover procedures.
